THE WELL DRESSED SAINT

Yesterday was St. Nicholas Day, and while in reality he was the Bishop of Myra who used his sizable inheritance to help the needy, we know him better as the early version of our modern day Santa Claus.

In many countries around the world, on the evening of December 5, the eve of St. Nicholas Day, children set out their shoes, for the benevolent saint to fill with toys, candy, and fruit - a foreshadowing of the gifts to come at Christmas,

St. Nicholas is the patron saint of many groups, including sailors and travelers, but what I like most, is that he is the patron saint of haberdashers, which in my book, makes him a well dressed saint indeed.

***Does your family celebrate St. Nicholas Day?
