PATRIOTIC PHONE CASE

My visits to the hospital over the last week have put me way behind with my posts.

Yesterday was President's Day, one of the days we are reminded of of all things patriotic. When it comes to showing the "red, white and blue," nothing beats this great phone case from Kate Spade. I shared before that, for me, phone cases are accessories, and I will often change them out to match my outfits.

This great phone case not only sports red and blue bow ties on a white back ground to help me celebrate the Presidents, it also throws in a few pink bow ties (one of my favorite colors) for good measure. The beauty of this gem is that it goes well with the red, white, and blue anchor socks I found at J. Crew last year.

I found this phone case while shopping last fall, and have been saving it for for all of the patriotic holidays ahead. While President's Day is behind us now, Memorial Day and July Fourth are fast approaching. It's good know that my phone game will be on point.

UNEXPECTED STAYS

Not where I had planned to spend most of my week.

A NIGHT AT THE OPERA

Last Saturday evening, my friend Art and I attended the Minnesota Opera's production of Rusalka, at the Ordway Theater. It had been several years since I had been to the opera, and this was the first time I had gone after moving to Minnesota, so I was really looking forward to it. I also had never seen Rusalka.

Our seats offered a great view of the stage.

The beautiful interior of the Ordway Theater.

I absolutely loved the performance. The first thing that struck me was how amazing the sets were. They were just beautiful. Secondly, the cast was strong, and incredibly talented, in fact the entire performance was just so well done.

The one thing that bothered me a little, was the storyline. At first it seemed shallow and lacking, but after a conversation with a coworker who saw it the next day, it all made perfect sense to me, and I loved it.

The lighted trees outside the theater offered lovely view during intermission.

Rusalka was the perfect performance for me to experience the Minnesota Opera for the first time. The cast was first-rate, the sets were amazing, and the entire performance was simply stellar. I definitely will be attending another production.

AN EARLY SPRING

Earlier this morning Punxsutawney Phil did not see his shadow, thus ensuring that we shall have an early spring. Had Phil been here in Minneapolis he also wouldn't have seen his shadow, but the irony of the early spring prediction, is that we are now preparing for a snowstorm that will be settling in later today. It hard to be thinking of an early spring while preparing for a major snowfall.

FIRE OF BRIGID

Today is St. Brigid's Day, or Imbolc in the ancient Celtic calendar. It is the first day of spring, and a time when the Celts would sweep and clean their homes thoroughly, and light new fires in their hearths. The countryside would also be ablaze with bonfires celebrating Brigid's fire, which was now warming the earth preparing it for the planting season. Brigid's Fire made everything new.

THE ART OF MUSIC

My friend Renee painted this beautiful art piano for Calhoun Square, and it's always a wonderful treat to walk through the building and find someone playing it. It's the perfect example of how art and music can touch us, and move us.
